2016: Largest Tournament to Date with a Full 24 Leagues; OCWA Wins Second Cup With 13-0 Record

Updated: May 24, 2020

Recap

The field once again grew in 2016, as we had 24 leagues sign up to play, which is top capacity. St. Louis and Kalamazoo were replaced as regional hosts with Morenci, Michigan and Bronx, New York. Eagan and Wilkes-Barre remained hosts, and each regional site now had six teams competing in the round-robin format. Regionals cut the field from 24 to 16, and they returned to Soccer First in Dublin, Ohio for the fourth straight year.

OCWA had a historic year. They went 5-0 at regionals, 3-0 in round-robin, and then 5-0 in double elimination play to secure their second NWLA Tournament championship. Skibbe Wiffleball League (SWBL) upset WSEM in the loser's bracket finals to get to their first championship game. In the championship they walked in a pair of runs in the 6th to lose, 2-1.
