2017: Tournament Finds New Home in Morenci; WSEM Wins Third Cup

Updated: May 24, 2020

Recap

2017 was the year of transition. Chris Gallaway stepped away, and the host committee replaced him with Michael Sessions. The tournament was then moved from Dublin, Ohio to Morenci, Michigan. Regionals stayed, but the teams who finished top eight the year prior weren't involved. Instead, Eagan and Wilke-Barre each hosted a regional that had seven leagues competing for four spots. The eight leagues who moved on from both regional sites joined the top eight from 2016 to come to Morenci.

WSEM rolled through the tournament with an undefeated record, sans one tie in pool play. SWBL, once again, proved that they were a formidable challenger to the championship and met WSEM in the finals. In Stephen Farkas' last tournament as a player, he helped lead WSEM to a 1-0 victory in the championship over SWBL to give WSEM its third title.
